Tuesday's New Music

The Decemberist- The King is Dead

The Decemberist, indie rockers from Oregon, are back with their sixth album The King is Dead. Out of all the new releases this week, this album is undoubtedly the hottest and the only one that really has a chance of breaking into the Top 10. Over the last ten years, the group has garnished a strong following, as well as strong critical acclaim, and should be able to match the success of their 2009 album The Hazards of Love, which debuted on the Billboard at number 14. I think they'll make Top 10 with this one. You can hear the whole album here.

The Script- Science and Faith
Irish alternative rockers The Script are releasing their second album today. The disc is already recieving acclaim on the other side of the pond debuting at #1 in both the UK and Ireland last September. It will be interesting to see if any of that overseas success pans out here, their first ablum (2008's self title) entered the Billboard Charts at #64 and their of their two released singles have gotten much traction on American radio stations. Still, I'm gonna guess a much higher debut this time around. The album cover is amussing, science and faith really aren't this good of friends.

Social Distortion- Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes

Look Familiar?

This punk band has been around since the late 70's, though surprisingly this is only their seventh album. Not to much to say here, Social Distortion plays great straightforward punk rock tunes and if you haven't heard of these legends I'm pretty sure you've seen one of their t-shirts.

Gregg Allman- Low Country Blues
This old dog doesn't need to learn any new tricks. The gravel-wolf leader of the Allman Brothers, this is Gregg's first solo release in 14 years. The record was produced by that always amazing, T Bone Burnett and sees Mr. Allman tackling some of this favorite old blues songs. Like classic blues, like the Allman Brothers, than check this one out. You can listen to the entire album here.

Times of Grace- The Hymn of a Broken Man
Times of Grace is the result of current Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz forming a duo with original Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach. The two have been working together since 2008, and this is their debut album.

Ghost- Opus Enonymous
Not a whole lot is know about Ghost beside that they're a metal band from Sweden who write songs mostly about Satan. That's all the information I need to check out these guys. The albums been out in Europe for about a year now and is getting pretty good buzz across the interwebs; plus it has an awesome cover. Buy this album.

Tennis- Cape Dory
Hmmm, what are your first thoughts when viewing this album cover? Is this a re-issue from some lost band in the 80s? Man the chick on the cover is almost sexy, despite haveing no chest, an un-remarkable face, and a strange tight blue spandex outfit that draws my eyes in but certainly doesn't flatter her figure. Yet I still stare.........This is Tennis's debut release, and apparently the group is husband and wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley, who started working on this album after a seven month boat trip. Cool I suppose, and though the duo are getting pretty good vibes in blogosphere I get the feeling I won't like them (just based on their name, album cover, marrital stance, and super short bio). Do you get that feeling?

Next Week:
Motorhead!!!!
