Songs for Hank

The old ghost, the lost son,  the grandfather of modern day Country Music, Hank Williams is an influence and an icon like few others, though he fell to tragedy at the young age of 29. To singer-songwriters, especially of the Country persuasion, his name is nearly divine and his classic songs are mandatory hymns holding the earliest elements of rockabilly, rock and roll, modern country, and modern folk music. Many songs and albums have been paid tribute to this towering icon, and today I present my favorite songs paying homage to the immortal Hank Williams.

The Ride- David Allen Coe
Coe bums a ride from the Ghost of Hank Williams, who tells him the trials and tribulations of being a music star.

Midnight in Montgomery- Alan Jackson
Jackson pays a eerie visit to the grave of Hank, and runs into his lasting ghost.

I Don't Think Hank Done it This Way- Waylon Jennings
Waylon baratons about making it in Nashville all the while comparing his success to the old legend.

Night Hank Williams Came to Town- Johnny Cash w/ Waylon Jennings
Johnny and Waylon take us back to the days when Hank was still touring the country.
Family Tradition- Hank Williams Jr.
Hank Jr. pays tribute to his father while establishing himself
I feel Like Hank Williams Tonite- Jerry Jeff Walker
Jerry runs through the emotions of a hard break up, relating them to different genres of music, but at the end of the day he just feels like listening to some Hank Williams.
