Today's Big Releases

This is a horrible week to release a new album. Record sales are low, and the Billboard Top 10 is a viscous battle of holiday albums and big name recording stars, Taylor Swift, Susan Boyle, Kanye West, all battling to be #1. On top of that, today mark's the release of Michael, Miachael Jackson's first posthumous release. While there are other releases today, Michael's is the only one that really matters.

Michael Jackson- Michael
Everyone's been talking and speculating about his album leading to it's release. It's only been 18 months since the King of Pops passing, and record executives are savvy to cash in on Michael's post mordum career re-bound. The new album consist of ten tracks taken from Michael's vault, some tracks going as far back as Michael's earliest solo work with Quincy Jones. The tracks have been polished and reproduced to try and capture the pop magic that made Jackson one of the biggest recording artist in modern history. Whether or not it the album fails or succeeds in this quest has been a hot topic in the music world as of late, with mix-bag reviews and polarizing opinions on releasing songs Michael Jackson had rejected and failed to finish. For every positive review released there seems to be an equal number of damming ones, and while artist like Akon and Lenny Kravitz are happy to see these songs unearthed, members of Jackson's family as well as Will.iam and Quincy Jones have been highly critical of the release.

Looks like listeners will have to decided for themselves whether or not this one is a worthy entry into the Jackson cannon, and it will be interesting to see where this album lands on the Billboard Top 10. I haven't hear the album yet, but you can here.
