ROTR 2012: Shinedown?

Time is running out and soon we'll know the lineup for this year's Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, Ohio. Until then we can still speculate and run down any rumors we might happen upon before Wednesday finally hits. One such rumor rising on the interwebs is that Shinedown is not only set to appear at ROTR but will actually be headlining one of the days. Shinedown last played ROTR back to back years in 2008 and 2009 in support of their platinum selling album The Sound of Madness. Last year we saw Avenge Sevenfold rise to headliner status after previous playing the festival on the undercard, could this be Shinedown's year? Do we want Shinedown to headline?

Extremely popular on modern rock stations with a ton of hits, two Platinum records under their belt (and one Gold), and a brand new album dropping this year, some fans could certainly make a case for a Shinedown headlined show. The band is scheduled to be in Europe through mid February, but after that their only US date so far for 2012 is headlining a smaller radio festival in Tampa, 98 Rockfest, with Evanescence, Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, Trivium, POD, and Art of Dying. Could this be evidence of Shinedown playing or headlining ROTR 2012, only time will time.

Personally I hope Shinedown is at the festival but not as a headliner, I think a bigger band like System of A Down, Manson, etc. would make for a better show. What do you think?

  1. Possible long shot what about Rammstein headlining Saturday night? They do not hae a date scheduled for Saturday the 19th on their North american tour.. big enough band for Rock on the range to fly them out..

  2. I am confident that the 2 headliners are going to be Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica. simply look at their current touring dates and its all too obvious. I may be wrong on RHCP but I will bet anything that Metallica is doing it!!!

  3. Metallica won't be there, too big of a band for the show as they could sell out an arena by themselves and would be too costly I would think (although id be very happy if I was wrong about that). Id put my money more on Tool, Manson, Linkin Park, SOAD or someone along those lines as the possible headliners.

  4. RHCP won't be there as they won't play the same city within two weeks of each show, so count them out as well. Plus Metallica is definitely out as I even though they have a break between dates during that period, they are in Europe before and after and I can't see them heading back to the US for the show, then head back over there to continue on. It wouldn't be worth it to them and if you thought they'd ve expensive normally, id hate to see the premium added on for that kind of side track from their current tour. So needless to say, I guarantee neither will be headliners there buddy.
