Ozzfest 2012

Will the once great festival return?

With the original Black Sabbath set to return with a new album and a slew of festival dates, should we expect the resurrection of Ozzfest for 2012? Black Sabbath headlined several Ozzfests in the 90s and 2000s so once their return was announced internet rumors began to amass about the heavy metal forefathers bringing back Ozzy's defunct festival.

While there is no official word on Ozzfest returning in 2012, the rumor is that Ozzfest will tour America this summer for 29 dates with the following lineup:
Mainstage
Black Sabbath
System of A Down
Megadeth
Killswitch Engage
Machine Head

2nd Stage
Lamb of God
Testament
Suicide Silence

2nd Stage Rotating Bands
36 Crazyfists
All Shall Perish
Dirge Within
Impending Doom

If this list is legit, than we should have a great Ozzfest, but don't put too much stock in it until we here some official word from Sabbath or Ozzy that there will even actually be an Ozzfest this summer. I for one wouldn't mind just a Sabbath stadium tour. Of course all of this depends on Tony being well enough to tour giving his recent diagnosis with lymphoma.

  1. What do you think of the rumors of a huge tour with sabbath metalica and slipknot that has been rumored by i belive it was loudwire. Do you think this might be the return of ozzfest lineup

  2. No Slipknot is doing the mayhem fest with KoRn, Five Finger Death Punch, As I Lay Dying, Whitechapel, Anthrax, Skeletonwitch and others this year. So no this lineup is much more likely for Ozzfest.

  3. This story has been around for a while. Although it's a good line-up to most people, it actually looks more like a wish list than something legit, simply because this list of bands may be too expensive for organizers. Doesn't anyone remember the long list of no-name bands that packed all previous Ozzfest line-ups? And what about the dates? Even IF Iommi's health is not an issue, considering Sabbath's European dates would mean that Ozzfest would start around mid-August - with 29 dates pushing Ozzfest into mid-October. Nobody wants to hold an outdoor festival in the Northern states past mid-September, so they would have to do all the Northern dates (Boston, Hartford, Detroit, Chicago, etc.) first, the finish up in the warmer states (Cali., Texas, Arizona, etc.). Can we really envision an Ozzfest where only the first few dates occur during the summer? A summer tour is important to attract kids who are off from school since most of the shows end up being on weekdays. Why would organizers offer a wildly expensive line-up with most of it's dates on weekdays after school has begun? An abbreviated Ozzfest tour (10 dates or less) with Sabbath as the crown jewel an the rest of the line-up mostly filled with no-names would sound more believable. As for this story... looks like bull to me.
