Best Albums of 2010: 50-40

Only 1 will be #1

The world's critics have spoken (well the US and UK's anyway (maybe Canada had some influence in there too)) and there list of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2010 as compiled by Muse-Zach. How did I compile this list, we'll you just have to keep tunning in to find out. Enjoy.

#50. M.I.A Maya
For most of us, M.I.A. burst on to the scene in 2008 with her hit single "Paper Planes", a song that was literally everywhere. She build a strong reputation (performed at the Grammys pregnant) as a tough female artist with style, honesty, and political opinion. Though her new album Maya has not garnered the kind of attention it's 2007 predessor Kala did, she's still a favorite for music lovers. Congrads M.I.A. you just barely made the Top 50.

I really like the style of this video and the sang is decent but really tame from what I expected from M.IA. No Paper Planes here.

#49. Rick Ross Teflon Don
Rap's big man had a very good year and critics have taken notice. His fourth album, Teflon Don, released in July has already been certified Gold here in the States and the album sees guest spots from some of the biggest names in the game; Jay-Z, Kanye West, Ceo Lo Green, Drake. Though Eminem denied Ross his fourth consecutive #1 album on the Billboard 200, he's got a lot to be thankful for.

Hmmm, song is only good when Rick is spitting rhymes, otherwise I"m not a fan. Drake sings better than I though he could, comes close to stealing the show at the end of the track. Lol "I got that Courtney Love for ya, Crazy for ya" that's a good line.

#48. Eminem Recovery
Last year's Relapse might have been Eminem's comeback album (following his short retirement), but Recovery was undoubtedly his return to form. The disc has already sold over 3 million copies in the US, and re-established the man once know as Slim Shaddy as one of, if not the, top Rapper in the country. It topped the Billboard for most of the summer, unleashed a number of how hits and featured a who's who's of the top Rap and R & B performers in the country including: Jay-Z, Rihana, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, and so on. It's good to have the Detroit superstar back at the top of his game.
The success of this song hangs largely on the sampling of "What Is Love" by Haddaway, but Weezy and Em give it some real power. Impossible for not to get pumped up to this shit.

#47. Avi Buffalo Avi Buffalo
Hailing from Long Beach, California, Avi Buffalo are a brand new indie-pop band earning major recommendations in critic circles and college radio playlist. I personally know little about them but they are recommended for fans of the Shins. Regardless of their supposed merit, they album cover is undeniably awesome. We'll have to wait and see what kind of mark these young Buffalos can leave.

Sounds just like MGMT, I can certainly mellow out to this track. Indie college kids must love these guys, the song goes on way to fucking long though.

#46. My Chemical Romance Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
It's been four years since their hugely popular third album The Black Parade, and now the Emo Kings have returned recharged and ready to rock your face off with their new disc. It's still too early to say how their return has been perceived by the masses, but critics have taken notice and placed them well ahead of some very big names. Rock on boys.

Fun catchy song from a fun catchy band. feels like jam for driving to a concert Good road trip song.

#45. No Age Everything In Between
The indie rock duo No Age released their first full fledged studio album this year since 2008's Nouns much to the approval of their fans and the indie rock community.

Really enjoyed the rising power of this song, though it has no blowout moment it's good man; real good.

#44. Robert Plant Band of Joy
Led Zeppelin fans be damned, Plant has a new hobby and a new fanbase (many who probably don't rock out to "Black Dog" like I like to). Plant has a softer touch, and is using his voice in a more elegant style to revisit wonderful songs written by other people, including Duluth's largely unknown band LOW. Don't think this train is coming to an end anytime soon either rock fans, Plant is already planning a sequel disc for Band of Joy and hopes to write the entire album with is band. Should be interesting seeing as how Plant has never written a song before.

The old Viking has tracked down another great song, the Band of Joy play it wonderfully.

#43. Superchunk Majesty Shredding
A very cool name for these indie rockers ninth studio album, and first full album since 2001's Here's To Shutting Up. Don't really know what else to say about these guys, I've never listened to them before. Probably not as good as Supertramp. They have four members. They're from North Carolina. Their album cover is only slightly cool, I could easily be convinced that it really sucks.

A repetitive song that doesn't really go anywhere, yet I enjoy the instruments and the vocal inflection. Might be some good songs on this album.

#42. Bruce Springsteen The Promise
Everyone loves the Boss, and if you don't please do us all a favor and castrate yourself now; no one wants your music hating offspring wandering this Springsteen loving planet. This album finds Bruce releasing previously unreleased songs from the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions. That means this is vintage Bruce from his fucking heydays. Even though it's not technically 'new' music, critics couldn't help but give love to their music over lord.

Vintage Springsteen, listen up kids this is how you make good fucking music.

#41. Twin Shadow Forget
Twin Shadow is the stage name for George Lewis Jr. and Forget is his debut release. Produced by Chris Taylor of  famed indie band Grizzy Bear, Twin Shadow's release has been given strong acclaim form many music magazines including RollingStone. I gotta say though, the album covers sucks. Lots like it's from the late 70s and belongs in the bargain bin.

Reminds me a bit of Interpol, really great track. I'm fucking digging it.

#40. Spoon Transference
Hey another indie band, at least I've actually heard of this one. Transference is the seventh studio album from the Texas indie rockers and earned their highest chart debut, coming in at #4 on the Billboard 200. That kid looks like he's scheming something, or wondering where he misplaced his favorite 'spoon'. Laugh you bastards.

Pretty decent song, wouldn't say I loved it but it's pretty good. I've liked some Spoon songs before though I've never really delved into any of the bands' albums.

Tune in tomorrow for 39-30.
