For some reason the hall really hates these guys.
Last week the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame announced this year's inductees:
Overall this year's list is pretty decent and with the exception of Laura Nyro, pretty rocking. I'm not sure why six performers were inducted this year instead of five, which has been the standard since 2005, but hey the Hall never seems to make any sense.
The real kick in the teeth this year is that Freddie King is being inducted into the Hall as an early influence after failing to get enough votes in the performance category. This is a shameful way for the Nominating committee to put King in the Hall by bypassing their own system. The Hall did the same thing in 2009 in order to get Wanda Jackson in, suddenly declaring her an early influence on rock after she failed to get enough votes to get in as a performer. Both Freddie King and Wanda Jackson are fine artist but it is a crazy stretch to say either was anything less than contemporaries of early Rock and Roll. Just goes to show you the nominating committee will find a way to get their favorite artists in, while fan favorites and snubbed legends wait on the sidelines.
The big question this year is whether the Hall be will be able to rope a GN'R reunion, certainly a tall order given that Axl Rose is certifiably insane and despises Slash. It would be amazing if the reunion were pulled off, but don't hold your breathe.
